Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off

The 6th Annual

Saturday October 2, 2010 - Noon – 4 p.m.

Make plans to join growers from all over Colorado as they compete in an international competition to grow the heaviest pumpkin. Pumpkins will range in weight from a few hundred pounds to over a 1000 pounds.  The 2009 CO state record was 10287 lbs, 2008  1,135 lbs, and 2007 was 1075 lbs.  Will Old Colorado City be the home of a new state record for 2010? This free event is fast becoming a great family tradition and enjoyed by all ages.  These enormous pumpkins, squash and long gourds are displayed all afternoon.  While they are waiting for judging, you can walk around them and pose for pictures.  Don’t forget your cameras!


  • Kids, bring your tiny pumpkins down and get them weighed. Bring them decorated, natural, teeny-tiny or as big as you can carry and win a prize.
  • Kids activities  from Noon to 4 pm.

Don't miss this free family event, Saturday, October 2nd in Historic Old Colorado City.

Results of the 2009 Weigh-Off

1st. Place - Doug Minix from Pueblo West with a pumpkin weighing exactly 1,000 lbs. 

2nd Place - Marc Sawtelle of Colorado Springs with a pumpkin weighing 954 lbs. 

3rd Place - Jim Grande of Littleton with a pumpkin weighing 766 lbs. 

Howard Dill Award - Ron Franzen of Colorado Springs.
